Give Back A Smile Background

The Give Back A Smile™ (GBAS) program was established by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry® (AACD) out of a desire to give something back to the community, specifi cally, to help victims of unfortunate circumstances.

The AACD joined forces with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) to help carry out the program. The offi cial Give Back A Smile program was launched May 27, 1999. Since then, more than 6,000 AACD dentists, lab technicians and other dental professionals have volunteered their time and expertise pro bono for the Give Back A Smile program. Since the inception, 597 domestic abuse cases have been completed for a total dollar value of $4,859,546.42. There are currently 306 applicants that are being treated throughout the United States.

In the spring of 2001, Give Back A Smile received the Award of Excellence and the prestigious Summit Award in the 2001 Associations Advance America Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Washington, DC.

Time To Catch Up!

Main Line Cosmetic DentistThanks to all of you for your well wishes throughout the holiday season and for the great feedback about our newsletters.

To bring you up-to-date, Debbie and I were honored to participate in the Give Kids A Smile program last November along with other community volunteers. Everyone donated time and materials to provide dental care to underprivileged children in West Chester, PA.

November was quite a busy month, really. I also attended an advanced lecture on sleep apnea, and the entire team travelled to Las Vegas to study a special program on Achieving Dental Excellence. But here it is – February already. A heartfelt Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!

Yours in good dental health,
Dr. David M. Kaffey
